The EU wants to trim the CO2 emissions in 95 gr/km in 2020
To 95 grams by kilometer for 2020 it is arranged to demand the European Union to the manufacturers of automobiles to reduce the CO2 emissions. This is at least the proposal that will realize the Slovenian presidency to the meeting of ministers of Environment of the Twenty-seven which the next Thursday 5 of June in Luxembourg will be celebrated. We remember that in the norm presented/displayed until the moment the limit of 130 was contemplated gr/km for 2012 but did not regulate the limitation to more long term.
The present presidency of the EU justified the new proposal affirming that a “ample majority� of delegations asked for the introduction of long term objectives so that the manufacturers know what to do. Nevertheless, there is no unamimity in the approval of the measurement, some governments are in agreement with the reduction but they avoid to speak to determine a number concrete because “ does not exist a solid base for it ”. In fact, not even there is consensus between the Twenty-seven in the date as of which there is to apply the limit of 130 grams by kilometer, since some countries ask that it is delayed from 2012 to 2015 to give more time to the industry to adapt.
Of the definitive number and the sanctions to apply to the manufacturers who exceed the determined limits will speak the Ministers of Environment. And indeed in this last aspect there is no agreement either, since, while Brussels asks that the sanctions are of 20 Euros by each gram by kilometer exceeded in 2012 and that progressively they are increasing up to 95 Euros in 2015, some members think that these amounts too much are lifted.
Better informed on emissions
On the other hand, the European Commission has abierto a public consultation to reform the norms on information that receives the public about the fuel consumption and its CO2 emissions. According to Brussels, the present directive is not working correctly.
With the consultation sent yesterday, the communitarian Executive tries to collect facing the revision of the norm that glides within the framework of its fight against the climatic change. The public, accessible consultation for all the interested, will be open until next the 28 of July.
The present norm forces to present the consumption the car by each 100 kilometers and the amounts of CO2 that it emits by each 1,000 meters, besides the labelling of the cars in the concessionaires. In the same it is commited to arrange, in all the points of sale, of guides on the efficiency energetics of all the models available in each country and to that the data on consumption and emissions include in all the promotional pamphlets and announcements of cars.
